7th Grade    

Students have been learning about the Middle Ages in Europe and covered the topics of feudalism, manorialism, the spread of Christianity in Europe, the conflicts between medieval Popes and Kings, the Crusades, the growth of towns and cities, the Magna Carta, the Reconquista in Spain and the Black Death.  They will be using all of that knowledge to understand the next unit on the Renaissance. Talk to your child about what they are learning in class and you might be pleasantly surprised about how they are connecting what we are learning from 500 years ago to what is happening in the world today.

Please make sure your student has replenished their supplies so they are equipped and ready to do their best in class each day. It is also important that parents continue to regularly monitor their child’s grade on Synergy, as well as having your child clean out their binders of any work from Quarters 1 & 2.

Honors students have selected the topic of their Honors Project and research begins in February. If you have any questions regarding the project, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. We are looking forward to seeing some stellar work!

8th Grade

Horace Greeley once said, “Washington is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable. Go West, young man, go West and grow up with the country.” Beginning in February, our eighth grade students will be learning about such topics as Manifest Destiny along with the Industrial Revolution, slavery and the causes of the Civil War. Along the way, students will get the opportunity to do a number of Document Based Questions on Andrew Jackson, Manifest Destiny and the Causes of the Civil War. 

Please make sure your student has replenished their supplies so they are equipped and ready to do their best in class each day.
