What is PBIS at Joseph Kerr Middle School? Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students at JKMS to achieve social, emotional and academic success. At JKMS, we implement PBIS by teaching expectations to all students in all areas of campus, recognizing those students who are contributing positively to campus, and coming alongside those that need support. Students earn Kerr Kudos for showing Kindness, Effort, Respect, and Responsibility and are eligible to win prizes and privileges for their positive behavior. As a school, we work hard to help our students grow and prepare for the next step in their journey, and we want to encourage them in their positive behavior.

Currently, our staff are recognizing students through handwritten postcards, and stickers, which are being sent home. Along with that, students who have been recognized with our Kerr Kudo system have been put into a drawing, and are eligible for prizes. Teachers are also selecting students for end of term awards, and those students will be receiving a certificate and prize.
