English Language Arts

Students in both 7th and 8th grade are using the Study-Sync curriculum. Your student’s first term in English focused on central idea, reading comprehension, context clues, annotating strategies, citing text evidence and informative writing. Students are using both the consumable textbook as well as Google Classroom lessons. Independent afternoon work includes finishing up written responses, practicing the skills taught during distant learning instruction and reading (instruction materials and for enjoyment). All students should be reading at least 20 minutes a day in an independent reading book. Books are available for checkout through JKMS library and the EG Public Library. Students may also access books either hard copy or digitally from their own sources.  ELA teachers encouraged students to participate in the JKMS library sponsored Pizza Reading Wheel Contest and hoped your young scholar participated.
